The music curriculum offers the base for musical experiences that service students throughout their lives. The ability to perform, create, and listen to music with understanding is important to every member of society.
The general music program is an integral part of the Lower School for all grades. It provides for a balanced and sequential program of visual and instrumental instruction which includes developing the students’ abilities for reading music, using the notation and terminology of music, making informed judgments about music, and understanding music practices in relation to relevant history and culture. Students have the opportunity to perform at a variety of programs throughout the school year. Private instrumental lessons are available as part of the after-school activities program.
In grade 5, students have the opportunity to learn how to play an instrument of their choice. All grade 5 students are part of the grade 5 orchestra.
