Upper School Profile

The American School of Madrid (ASM) is a private, independent, non-profit PK-12 coeducational day school that prepares students for higher education. The school is affiliated with the Mediterranean Association of International Schools, European Council of Independent Schools, the Council of International Schools, the National Association of Independent Schools, the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, the Overseas Association of College Admission Counselors, the Spanish Ministry of Education, and the International Baccalaureate Organization and recognized by the United States Department of State. Founded in 1961 as an educational service to the children of overseas Americans, ASM opened its present site in 1967. Currently ASM serves students fro m more than 50 nations and is open to all nationalities.
Based upon exemplary standards and practices, ASM provides a rigorous college-preparatory program that enables our graduates to gain admission into top universities around the world. Through our full-service college counseling program, we assist students in all stages of college planning and applications, with the goal of securing admission into the students’ preferred universities.
In addition to having the longest-tenured American diploma curriculum in Madrid, ASM also offers the International Baccalaureate Program and the Spanish Programs Ofical. We encourage students to create an academic schedule that is both rigorous and consistent with curricular interests in preparation for post-secondary study. Students are given a breadth of opportunities representative of the varied lifestyles, values and customs that surround us, Including the traditions of our host country, Spain.
