Denise knew early on in her career that she wanted to teach lower school children. She enjoys traveling and spending time with loved ones, including her dog. The 2021-22 school year was Denise’s first at ASM.

When did you know you wanted to be a teacher?
After volunteering as a resource teacher at a high school, I knew I wanted to become an educator but in elementary school. My high school was a second chance program. Everyone in my program had dropped out of school previously and many hated school. I strived to make school a healthy and safe environment for them to want to come to and learn every day. I knew I wanted to do elementary to help kids to love learning before they got into the situation my high schoolers were in.

Tell us the story of what brought you to Madrid?
Chased a dream of combining my love of teaching and travel. Just graduated college and knew Europe was calling my name, I also knew I wanted to relearn Spanish so Spain it was and here I am.

What do you want students to take away from your class more than anything else?
That they are supported, and capable, and they have a love and understanding of learning.
