At ASM's Lower School, learning Spanish is more than just memorizing vocabulary—it's an exciting adventure that brings language to life. Our comprehensive Spanish program offers two unique pathways designed to meet diverse student needs. Our SFL approach transforms language learning into an interactive experience. Students don't just study Spanish; they immerse themselves in the language through engaging activities that build confidence and practical communication skills. By focusing on interactive techniques, we ensure students develop the fluency to participate in everyday conversations with enthusiasm and accuracy.

The main objective of Spanish as a foreign language is to introduce students to Spanish culture and enable them to achieve a level at which they will be able to participate in everyday activities using the Spanish language with sufficient fluency and accuracy. Students will be stimulated to develop an interest in learning Spanish and to build self-esteem and self-confidence with their ability to speak the language in and out of class. Classes are conducted in Spanish. Students will be assessed and placed at their language level according to their proficiency in all four skills using the Common European Framework (CEFR). In the Middle School, we offer four levels of Spanish as a foreign language. New students are tested at the beginning of the school year for their level and placed into the class that best corresponds to their level.

This course presents a communicative approach to language from its basic levels. Students will use the language in meaningful daily situations and basic grammatical structures of the language are taken from these situations. Later on, students will master all the grammatical aspects of the language. The course will focus on reading and writing several texts including literary ones. Cultural elements such as media, literature, and art, and the growing importance of the Spanish language will be emphasized. 
The Spanish curriculum follows the standards established by the European Framework of Languages for levels A1 to C2. Emphasis is given to learners' pronunciation, listening and reading comprehension, correctness of spelling in written interactions, and development as mediators of the language and the culture.

For native Spanish speakers and students with the proficiency of a native speaker, our curriculum follows the Spanish Ministry of Education's guidelines. Students explore language and culture simultaneously through social studies, creating a rich, holistic learning environment that honors their linguistic heritage and celebrates their cultural background.

The Native Spanish Program includes the sixth and final year of “Educación Primaria” (Grades 1-6), before the four years of “Educación Secundaria Obligatoria” (Grades 7-10). Students who are already proficient in the Spanish language will be placed in the Native Spanish Program. This course covers Spanish Language and Social Studies. The goal of this course, concerning language, is to review all the contents related to the Spanish language, as seen in previous years, specifically focusing on morphology and grammar. This course also consolidates the four basic language skills: written and oral expression as well as reading and listening comprehension. Students will read a variety of texts (including independent reading books) to improve their reading comprehension. Throughout the year they will practice using literary conventions to become more efficient writers. Through Social Studies, the goal is to cover basic concepts of Spanish and European geography, climate, population, and institutions. This curriculum meets the requirements as set forth by the Spanish Ministry of Education.

This course is designed for high school students (Grades 9-12) who wish to explore and deepen their knowledge of language, literature, and the rich Hispanic culture. The program combines the development of advanced language skills with literary, historical, and cultural analysis, fostering critical thinking and appreciation of cultural diversity.

This course prepares students to improve their proficiency in Spanish and to develop a deep appreciation for the literary and cultural richness of Spain. In addition, it provides valuable tools for academic and personal success in an increasingly globalized world.
